One Layer for "Less is More"

I really like this colour combination... Stampin' Up's Baja Breeze plus some of the neutral shades... Sahara Sand , Crumb Cake and Soft Suede. You can see how I achieved this in one layer on the "Less is More" Blog. Needless to say, I got into a bit of a pickle on some of the preparatory attempts, the most annoying of which was spoiling practically finished cards with inky fingers... having only just washed my hands! I also wrecked another at the very last moment when adding the sentiment.
I tried to resurrect some of the images I'd done to make into non-one layer cards, but then I stuck one image on upside down.
This may look reasonable to you, but there is some music manuscript stamped in gold on this and if you were to look really closely you'd see it was upside down... plus I made it with the darker shade of ink at the bottom. These two are simply cut out and stuck on to look like the first card but are not in fact one layer! I used a little embossing powder on these, plus it's smoother card so the overall effect is shinier.
For this one I used 4 different clear cling stamps (a present some time ago from my bloggy friend Victoria, thanks again Victoria) and a couple of Embosslits butterflies, gently twinkled.
The theme this week at "Less is More" is In the Frame... there must be loads of ways of interpreting it, this last card uses an image from our sponsor at "Less is More" this month... Arielle of the Wax Fruit company and she has lots of images in or partly in frames...why don't you take a look and do come and join us in our challenge.
This last one is also for the CAS challenge at the Stampotique challenge blog this time.

  7. Why do I get a compulsion to feed the fish when i come her? LOL

Beautiful cards especially the first 3 and of those the 2 with hot colours, probably the upside down shows more clearly irl or maybe just to you because you know. it is still hot and lush. And its good to know you get inky and messy! XOXO Zoe

  8. Love these Chrissie, you are the Queen of inking.. I would have far more spoiled ones than good cards :)
Glad you didn't change the challenge but I was only guessing what 'in the frame' actually meant.

  9. What an amazing group of cards! The wash of colors is beautiful and I totally hear what you are saying about inky fingers and upside down stamps. When
I am getting to the end of a creation that I am loving, I go through dozens of baby wipes and I stamp the same stamp onto scratch paper a number of times to make sure it's right (as if it is magically going to turn itself upside down after I test stamp the first time) and with all of that I still sometimes find thumbprints!

  18. A stunning selection of cards Chrissie. My favourites are the first and last ones. I think we've all had our share of disasters with inky fingers etc. The other day when I was making my LIM card I managed to put the butterfly stamp on the block smooth side up and then wondered why the image was blurred lol!!

  21. Wow! Sounds like you had some of the same issues I did! LOL! I almost gave up this week, because everything I did was wrong! I had one almost perfect one and then realized I'd done it all on the BACK of the card! Duh!

I love all your cards...I especially love the ones that aren't true OL....the red with the gold embossing is awesome.

It's probably just me, but for some reason the first card doesn't look balanced. I think I might have made it one line and put it under the right side of the square - but that's probably my OCD coming out. It is a gorgeous card.

My personal favorite is the last card. Those tulips are just fab...and the coloring is perfect.

  22. You've certainly given us lots of inspirations. Love SU's Fresh Foliage. The color wash really does it justice. I think the last is my fave with that original separation of the frames...very pretty.
Thanks so much for getting together with Mandi and picking me....I'm so very honoed to be show-cased.

  32. Your cards are always fab Chrissie but the top one here is a real show-stopper and just the kind of card I love - loads of white space and a layered sponged image! The other cards are gorgeous too but I really had to have a little sit down after seeing the first. My French Foliage set arrives this week so thanks for the inspiration. Vx

  35. Where to start? These are all fantastic Chrissie. So love those warm colours with gold - they are stunning even if they aren't OLCs.
You got me thinking....I almost spoiled a card yesterday when I pricked my finger and 3 spots of blood appeared right beside where I'd been embroidering. I dabbed the spots with a baby wipe and they disappeared. Now, would that work with ink too? Not sure, but it may be worth a try.
    Keep warm hunni!
    Hugs,
    Sharon xx

  39. This is awesome! I love the colours and everything. this was the technique I was attempting in my entry last week which ended up so badly that it had to go to the bin. Unlike you, i moved on. Still, glad you persevered as the final card is a masterpiece.

    cheers,

  47. Beautiful cards....the first being my favorite..just so soft and has a vintage feel to it! I too messed up my entry for this week, as I got specks of embossing power on it...working in the wee hours of the night I just didn't see it...but I entered it, and now will scrap it to reuse...sigh!!
