WOYWW 79

I seem to have got into the habit of waking really early...at  silly o'clock, today being no exception. It's now 4.40am! When I was working, I would worry that I should be asleep at that hour, knowing I'd be really tired during the day. Now that I'm retired, I don't care... if I'm awake I usually do something...  read, watch tv, make a card or as just now, take pictures of my work desk, instead of lying worrying that I ought to be asleep.
Here's the clutter I left last night. I had been making some gift card wallets and voucher holders for my daughter to use for some of her Christmas gifts. It started at three and has now risen to four. I just got out a store card to use as a size guide and started playing around until I came up with something which worked.
I quite enjoyed messing around doing this kind of thing. Once I'd made the first one, I decided to make a box to put it in.
I've got two done and so... two to go!
Do you remember the pelmet I recovered for my daughter a few weeks ago? I had some bits of fabric left over and so I fiddled around the other day and made this cushion for Daisy's bedroom. I'm taking it to her tomorrow as a surprise... she's not a regular reader of my blog, so it'll still be a surprise!

It's only my second attempt at patchwork and it took me a while to work out how to attach the quilting foot on my sewing machine.  I'm going to have to take that back to the repairers as it sometimes continues to sew after I've taken my foot off the pedal.
Some folks seem to be showing off their Christmas trees this week, you can see mine on this post  here.
Have a great Wednesday and pop over to Julia's, the queen of all the snoopers and share in the fun of seeing the workdesks of the world!

  1. I am up early too, but unfortunately I have to go to work. You are what the Germans call a "Tausendkuenstler" as you can do so many different crafts - cards, dolls, quilting...is there anything you don't do? Love all your work!
Have a lovely time with your granddaughter!

  6. Beautiful owl patchwork. Great colours.

I wake up early too, unfortunately, it's not an internal alarm clock, it's my little baby demanding a cuddle.

  14. Oh you clever thing - that cushion is gorgeous. Bet you've started something now though..! It's nice isn't it, to be creative away from the card stock for a while. Am horrified by your waking time, but totally love that you can be so laid back about it!

love your Christmas tree, we do the same, alternate years I manage to get some annual leave at Christmas and we go away, each time I bring back something for the years we spend at home,
this year I have the weekend and two bank holidays and we will open up the house and greet the family and friends - we give food and shelter as our Christmas gift as i have no time or inclination to buy into the traditions of commercialism,
we have a lovely time and often recollect stories from the world wide travels and decorations. wouldn't have it any other way...

    Happy Christmas Chrissie

  24. Your quilted owl is lovely - and no way could anyone tell that is only your second go! I think we ought to open up the crafters' night chat forum, so we can babble away while the tumbleweed roams the streets at 4am.

  26. I don't think anyone should worry if you can't sleep, if you can't just get up and do something! Trouble with me I stay up all hours with out really noticing that it 4 in the morning and I haven't been to bed yet! but then...if I sit in a comfy chair, I'm snoring in seconds! Love your quilted owl pillow...pillow??? ohooo time for a snooooze! Have a Happy WOYWW!

  28. Another true multitasker, your craft room shows it, too. Hope you get your sewing machine fixed soon. It sounds serious at worst, and annoying at least.

BTW, that's what I call a REAL tree and in front of the fireplace where it belongs, too. I would say it has aged well, and kept its shape, too. See, YOU have a home big enough for a big tree. I don't even own a couch and chair for entertaining.

I know what you mean about "worrying that I should sleep" - I think so many women experience that. I'm glad that it doesn't bother you anymore. Truth be told, I love a nice afternoon nap, and most days I need it.

  31. gosh Chrissie - what an amazing cushion you have made. She'll always have that hopefully and tell her grandchildren that her grandmother made it for her...

You seem to be getting up just as I'm going to bed somedays - then i'm up again at 8ish. Its not a good cycle for me to be in i'm afraid - but hey ho!!!

    Lovely post. thanks for sharing.

  50. I, too, enjoy the luxury of not having to worry if I can't sleep and often get up, make a cuppa and settle down with a book, watch TV or craft if I want to knowing that I can take a 'power nap' later if necessary. The gift card wallets are much nicer than the ones you usually get in the stores and your cushion is a triumph - love the patchwork and I'm sure your daughter will too. Elizabeth #95
