Bears everywhere

I came across this Dustin Pike image today, which is just perfect for Teddy Stampers Challenge of Bedtime Bears.

I used the colour theme of Teal and Brown from Crafty Angels, and as I think that the subject matter is suitable for a chap, I have also included 'The boyz are back' from Crafty Cats.

I did think that I would enter it for Pollycraft's challenge too, but when I came to link it, I realised that I was too late and a new challenge has been posted! Hey Ho! Time is running away with me!

I've still got some commission baby cards to do.... I'd better press on!

This is the first time that I have made a Joy Fold card using a circle as the smaller element of the fold. I hope I've left enough for the hinge! It's always difficult to know how much to leave, so that it actually holds together but still keeps the circular shape.

The image is from Penny Black and the paper from Cuddly Buddly. The circular diecut strip is Cuttlebug and the image is mounted on Nesties.

I've just been watching the test match, so I think I'd better get back to card-making!

Back on our own

Today, we have the house back to ourselves for the first time in nearly a week. My daughter and granddaughter have returned home feeling much better, my son, who popped down on Saturday to look at a sports car has now returned home again. He decided to buy the car and so will return in about a week or so to pick it up! It's a pity he lives so far away, the M25 can be very slow at times.

Anyway, now's my chance to catch up on lots of cards. I've got commissions to do plus DT cards for various challenges!

This one is for neither... I just felt like using this image, and for it I used the Sketch from Inspirational Card Sketches #68, the theme of Happy Birthday from Little Red Wagon , the colour challenge (pink or blue with green and brown) from Simon Says Stamp and C.R.A.F.T. Challenge - Blue & Green. Colour Create - Soft Green & Aqua.

The background paper has been overstamped in a similar blue shade using a crackle type stamp and the SU sentiment is mounted on an SU Word window punchie. Sadly I can't remember what the image is, except to say that it's a digi!

Cooking it up with Katie #18

'Wing it you Pink Petal' is the recipe for this fortnight's challenge from Cooking it up with Katie! So the card must contain, wings, petals and pink... fairly obvious I expect!

It's also for Paperplay's Challenge is Up in the air.

The days have run away with me this week whilst looking after my family so somehow this DT card didn't get blogged on the correct day! I'm really sorry about that!

I used a couple of new things for this card. The Marianne's butterfly die is one new acquisition which I think is really pretty. The background was stamped with my new Jumbo Roller from Stampin' Up from the current mini catalogue. It's a fabulous stamp and creates beautiful backgrounds. I used gold ink on a pearlised paper to make this one. Victoria at Blue Jelly Stampin' can supply any Stampin' Up requirements you may have. Take a look at her fabulous blogs, you can't help but be inspired.

The flowers were made with Nellie Snellen Cut & Emboss punches.

Pearls & Swirls

I've had a really busy few days with my daughter and granddaughter staying with us and neither of them feeling well. They're still here, hence the reason for my not blogging!

However, I have a few minutes to post my contribution DT card for One Stop Card & Crafts, which this week is Pearls & Swirls. Today, we have a much extended team, so do take a look at all the fabulous examples on the blog and come and join in.

Cute Card Thursday's challenge is No designer Papers, Just us Girls, has the challenge Dry Embossing and Quixotic Challenges has Emboss it this week. This card is mainly just that!

It is made with mostly Cuttlebug elements. The background embossing is with the Divine Swirls folder and the heart was made with the duo Cut and Emboss Heart dies. The corners are also from Cuttlebug.

I always put Double Sided Tape on the back of the card before cutting out fiddly things like these corners, so that all I need to do is peel and stick, after they have been cut. It saves fiddling around with messy glue.

It's surprising how many different cards can be created just using white!

WOYWW

This was my craft room at 5.30am this morning!

Yesterday, my daughter arrived with a rather poorly Daisy. She had had intermittent high temperatures and was really not very well.

After a trip to the doctor's, it was thought that one of her ears was the culprit, but it was uncertain whether it was bacterial or viral, so she was given a prescription for anti-biotics, but asked that we should wait until today to see whether she should take them or not. Today, she is much better, and seems back to her normal happy self. Thank goodness, I hate to see little ones when they are unwell.

She loves to do 'colouring in' as she calls it and has her own bag of crafty goodies to use when she comes to stay.

At 23 months, she knows her colours, can count to 10, can recognise numerals to 8 and can identify a circle, square, star, heart and triangle. Granny is very proud!

Probably not much crafting will be completed today, it's a good job I managed to make 40 Thank you cards for one of my recent wedding commissions yesterday before Daisy arrived, it's as sure as eggs are eggs, that I wouldn't have been able to do them with her here!

My Time to Craft - Vivid Greeting

I've been waiting to use this fabulous backing paper for ages. I printed it out a long time ago and was just waiting for an opportunity to use it. I've had it so long, I can't actually remember where I downloaded it from. I'd like to find out to print some more.

At My Time to Craft this week, the theme is Vivid Greetings. This paper is certainly vivid, and I feel made more so, by the addition of the cherry red accents.

As it is also dotty, it's perfect for the challenge at Penny Black. I love Penny Black stamps and this gorgeous one was part of my trawl when I went to the craft show at Farnborough a few months ago. In fact I'm now waiting for a new stamp to arrive from PB Stamps which I won on the Penny Black Challenge blog. How exciting is that! The choice of stamps on this website is truly amazing, and choosing was extremely difficult, I would have loved so many! SO watch this space for when my new stamp arrives... a slight clue, it has a musical connection!

The sentiment I used here is from Unity Stamps and the charm came from a mixed bag which I bought recently on eBay.

I love this freebie image from Whimsie Doodles and the challenge from Totally Papercrafts, (which this week is a picture inspiration) made me immediately think of this bear.

I could just try one of these concoctions on a beautiful day like today. I'm off to join my husband watching Hampshire play cricket this afternoon. It's what I would call proper cricket weather!

The second challenge is from I love digi with a theme entitled Charming!

The third one is from Bee Crafty who want to see something new. I have my new Blossom Nesties and the charm comes from a mixed bag I just bought on eBay.

The strawberry charm is really fat, so unless this card is delivered by hand, I think it's going to be need one of those 'Large letter' stamps.

Never mind, I think it looks cute!

Sunday morning

This morning we are waiting for the Sky man to come and upgrade us to HD. We have had an HD ready TV since before the HD Sky boxes arrived on the scene, and my husband was just waiting for the right deal to present itself before he upgraded. So today's the day! I wonder if we'll notice a great difference!

The paper is Pink Petticoat and the flowers were from a Challenge win some time ago.

I saw this sentiment on one of the DT cards from Quixotic. Rowena made a beautiful card and I pinched her sentiment and wrote it on the computer.

A template challenge

I did it again!

I left a piece of card in the printer and when I wanted to print a piece of backing paper, I printed the card instead.

This piece has sat in the drawer waiting for a challenge which would require a piece of patterned card and Just Us Girls gave me the opportunity today!

The challenge is to use a template and I chose to make this Trapezoid Box.

The digi paper is from Cuddly Buddly and I had a perfectly matching piece of plain card to make the flowers with my Snellen Punch and emboss duo.

The leaves are from a Leonie Em punch.

I decided to add the dragonfly charm onto the organza ribbon to give a little added pizzaz and with its addition, the project became eligible for the Alphabet challenge of D - for Dragonfly.

It's a pretty little box isn't it, the pattern and colour are so delicate. The paper is called Fairy Fun and the shade is Willow.

A couple of splat centres and some adhesive pearls complete the flowers.

Wedding Greeting

This card is for the lady whose wedding stationery I have just completed. You can see it here. I decided to use the same shape for the central panel as I had used on her invitations, but to keep it in ivory instead of adding the red accent that I had used on her design.

Despite what I said in my post the other day about check and double check details for stationery, I still had a phone call from the bride to say that I had put an 's' instead of an 'f' in the word 'of' in the menus. The number of times I had thought that I had checked it!! I should have enlisted the help of my resident proof reader... my husband. When I came to look really closely at the menu, I spotted that I had in fact also missed out one of the 'e's in chees(e)cake and that I had copied a mistake from the bride's notes where one type of melon had been spelled incorrectly. Between us we did rather well, but as they say that things tend to go in threes, so hopefully that will be the end of it!

In all other respects, she was pleased.

Ruby for July

For the challenge this week at One Stop Cards and Crafts, Shelley has chosen the theme of Birthstones. I was born in July and have the ruby as my birthstone, but in fact I have always had a preference for sapphires... and diamonds of course!

For this card I chose to go with the red for rubies and coloured this sweet image from Mo Manning with my Copics. Luckily, there are plenty of reds in the Ciao set but I find that there is a shortage of pale powdery blues... I don't know what other people find?!... But I digress.

The papers and sentiment are Patchwork, Red from Cuddly Buddly. Kim had recently released some sets of sentiments as digis, including this one, which are very useful as they can be sized to fit whatever project you are doing. The original size does fit neatly into Nesties however!

Creative Inspirations have the challenge to make a Card for a child, and Dare U 2 Digi Stamp have chosen One for the boys this week, whereas at C.R.A.F.T challenge the theme is birthdays, so this is for those challenges too.

Clean & Simple

This is just a quick post with a card using the sketch from Clean and Simple #90.

It is simply a piece of brown paper, embossed with Swiss dots and edged with a Martha Stewart border punch, onto which I have added a sprinkling of Woodware punched flowers, embossed and with added adhesive pearls.

A piece of spotty ribbon and a Hero Arts sentiment complete the card.

Simples!

Red White & Blue

At the Shabby Tea rooms this week the theme is in celebration of Memorial Day and so Stars and Stripes or Red White and Blue are the order of the day! Crafty Catz also has the red white and blue theme, so it's for that too.

Here is a bold card using Cuddly Buddly Birthday digi paper and Pink Petticoat bold blue stripy paper. Some Cuttlebug embossing, three brads and a red ribbon finish the card, which I think might be quite good for a chap!

Everybody Art - Sketch

Daring Cardmakers - Boyzone (Sponsored by Charmed Cards & crafts)

The stipulation from Daring Cardmakers was that the card should be for a little boy or a teenage boy, but not a grown-up.

This image of Roger Bear is perfect for a little chap and the sentiment from MSE fits the bill too.

The three brads were heat embossed with the baby blue embossing powder, giving them an enameled appearance, which I prefer to the basic brass. Take care if you do this, to make sure that you hold the brads with tweezers as the heat gun can make them pretty hot!!

The papers are Little Kwackers from Cuddly Buddly.

I really should try to do a bit more instead of phaffing about!

Stampin' Up Word Window Punch Tutorial

For this card, which is made from Stampin' Up elements, I decided that the word window punch was too long for the tiny sentiment from the Vintage Labels set.

So I set about shortening it.
Because of the shape of the cutting component within the punch, it cuts the ends of the window before the middle section. It's therefore possible to position the window to one side of the sentiment and squeeze gently without cutting through the piece of card entirely.Here you can see that the card has only been punched at either end of the aperture.Now you can re-insert the card into the punch and move the sentiment along a little to centralise it, and aligning the previous cut, simply punch completely through the card. (Actually I don't take the card out, I did that just to show you what it looks like, but I simply move it along a little.)
As you can see from the card at the top, the tiny sentiment looks cute on its tiny mount!
I may try to do a video of this, but don't hold your breath!

WOYWW

My car had to be taken to the garage for a service today and so I sort of forgot about what was on my workdesk.... how could I? I hear you say.

Actually I went out afterwards to look for a replacement for the naff drawers which I showed last week, which have decided to go all lop-sided. Sadly I couldn't find anything suitable, so I'm still struggling with inferior goods.

Today I have been playing around with some Stampin Up stuff. I discovered that I can reduce the size of the punchie from the word window punch, by part-punching it, then moving the card along inside the punch and then punching again. Brilliant for tiny sentiments!

Speaking of punches, I thought I might show you a couple of drawers of my punches. The top one is my larger punches and the other is my medium sized ones.I also have a box of tiny ones, but I'll show you those another day!

Check and DOUBLE check!

It always pays to check things thoroughly!

The bride came to collect the remainder of her wedding stationery and was thrilled with what she saw.

I asked her to check everything carefully before she took the stuff away as I had noticed, only a short while before she arrived, that I had given one person the wrong first name! (David instead of Daniel), so I sorted that out sharpish.

However, when she was checking through, she spotted that there was a couple whose surname was mis-spelt. My husband had proof read through all that I had printed and found everything to be correct. So I went back to the sheet she had given me for the table plan and discovered that as she had photocopied it, the last letter from a couple of the names had been missed off the edge of the sheet by the photocopier. I probably should have checked it against an earlier list she had given me, but I was taking the latest info as definitive!

It was rapidly changed, and so all's well that ends well!

Better late than never!

Somehow, I completely overlooked the making of this card for this week's challenge at My Time to Craft!

I had been anxiously trying to complete the wedding order from my previous post, which I'm happy to say has been done, but seemingly at the expense of getting this card made and ready for today's challenge. I do hope that the other DT girls will forgive me!

The theme this week is 'Under the weather', which could be interpreted in a variety of ways. I chose the 'Get well soon' path. Somehow, I think I must associate the colour green with feeling unwell and picked this Pink Petticoat backing paper almost instinctively when going through my backing paper drawer.

I think the image is from Woodware, but as I discard the outer packaging of lots of my clear stamps, (this being one of them) I couldn't be certain about that.

The bride is coming at lunchtime to pick up the remainder of her stationery. I do hope she'll be pleased.

How I spent my Sunday!

I've another wedding commission to complete for the 30th of this month.

The invitations (the card back left) were naturally completed some time ago, but the bride let me have back, a few that were left over. I converted these into 'Thank you' cards for her, by removing the central motif and adding a new heart and the Cuttlebug die cut Thank you. How's that for recycling?

The little ribbon wrapped stack of cards (there are 65 of them) are seat names for the actual ceremony. The bride made a special request for these, as she wanted her ushers to be able to direct guests to their places without kerfuffle.

The tall card is one of the menus, and the cards at the front are some the table numbers. The 65 placecards are blank, ready for the bride to add the guests' names in her beautiful calligraphy.

My poor little Cuttlebug was doing overtime yesterday... all that die-cutting and embossing! My neck was sore after I had finished too.

So all that remains to be done is the inserts of the menus and the Table Plan.

That will be my sixth set of Wedding Stationery done and dusted!

I paperpieced this little chap's umbrella with Cuddly Buddly Patchwork papers, purple, and used a couple of others from the set in the background.

This set of Nesties labels has sat unused on the shelf, for a very long time, so the challenge from ABC gave me the spur to get them out and use them. The ribbon was from a brand new spool, so that was 'unused' too.

It's surprising how much I seem to get behind after spending a couple of days away from home babysitting!

I'll catch up somehow!

Summer Breeze

This week's challenge over at One Stop Cards and Crafts is to use the phrase 'Summer Breeze' as inspiration.

Living next to the sea, here in Hampshire, my mind turned immediately to thoughts of sailing (although I don't sail my myself).

This image is by Hobby Arts and was stamped using Cat's Eyes chalk ink. The paper is Cuddly Buddly, Fairy Fun, the shade, appropriately for this card, is called Aqua! The sentiment is from SU.

A little embossing and ribbon completed the card.

I quite like monochrome cards!

Variation on a theme

A friend saw a wedding card which I had made recently and requested a similar one, personalised and with colours to match the theme of the wedding.

Totally Papercrafts has the theme of weddings or anniversaries this week so this is for that challenge.

Ooh la la Challenge has a minimalist theme this week where there must be white space. I don't know about the space, but there's plenty of white!

There is lots of die-cutting and embossing with a computer generated sentiment. The burgundy of the flowers doesn't show too clearly beneath the Glamour Dust!

Penny Black Challenge

There's something special about a Penny Black stamp and I just bought this one today. Isn't it cool?

I used the sketch from Penny Black's challenge this week, but sadly the image was too big for me to use the sentiment I wanted. I suppose I could have typed a smaller version on the computer. It was a Unity stamp which read, 'Coffee and friends, the perfect blend' It looks like this little kitty has blended very well with the coffee... he's right in it!

I coloured him with Copics and used Cuddly Buddly papers. It's mounted on Nesties and the trellis section is from a Cuttlebug die. This sentiment is an SU Stamp.

Anniversary Greeting

At my choir last night Anniversary cards seemed to be in demand. I had a few which were suitable without actually saying Happy Anniversary on the front. However today I thought that I would remedy the matter and make some cards specifically for anniversaries.

The is the first of them.

I loved the look of this sketch from Truly Scrumptious this week and I'm sure I'll be using this one again!

Our Creative Corner has the challenge of an Anniversary card, but maybe to use a different number than the usual 25 for silver and 50 for gold etc. I saw that the 10th anniversary is sometimes referred to as aluminium, so as the pearlised paper on this card is rather like aluminum (as you stateside gals call it) I thought that this card would be fine for that!

I wanted a large circle for the base layer of this card and none of my Nesties was big enough, so I made the circles with my X Cut Circles. There is no comparison in finish between the two methods... Nesties win hands down, but at least I have my large circles without having to cut them out with scissors, which would have come a very poor third in the rankings!

The pearlised paper is embossed with a Cuttlebug folder and the the computer generated sentiment and the heat embossed heart are mounted on Nesties.

The leaves are from a Leonie EM punch.

I've just bought a new ivy leaf embossing punch, so I'm going to have to dream up a project for that!

WOYWW

Hello all you WOYWWers!

You may have seen that I had been 'doodling' last week. Well I'm still at it. The light box which I was using to transfer my sketches to lineart was somewhat 'piddly' and so I came up with the idea of using my glass mat and my daylight lamp to make a light box of greater proportion.

It works like a dream, but sadly doesn't make my drawing any better.
Don't you just hate it when this happens!

I bought this set of drawers and thought how useful it would be to have card and essentials right to hand on my desk. But the wretched thing is a pain. The drawers don't stay on the tracks and one side is always collapsing onto the level below. Grrrr!

I also tried the tip about keeping ribbon reels on a chubby knitting needle. They trail somewhat and I have to get the spools off when I'm tying bows with my bowmaker. So I don't know if I'll keep them there. We'll see.
This is my collection of Spellbinders dies. Some CD cases have 2 sets in, for example I have the circles with the corresponding scalloped circles together. Some of my rectangles and squares are also doubled up so that I don't have to go ferreting through several boxes to find the size I need. They are just in front of me on the shelf, and so are readily accessible. The labels look a bit naff, but at least I know what's inside each box.

I'll be off to Bath again tomorrow to babysit my granddaughter on Thursday and Friday whilst my daughter is working. They are having a downstairs loo installed at the moment too, so it will be a case of 'Dodge the workmen'!

I drew it myself

Some of you may have seen on WOYWW last week that I had been 'doodling'. Well this is one of the things that emerged.

I had looked at lots of images available on the web and thought that I would have a go myself. However, I don't find it easy and a load of paper has found its way into the bin. The recycling men will have a field day at our house.

The card is my DT contribution for this week's challenge at My Time to Craft and the title this time is 'Too cute'. She is kinda cute isn't she... but then I would think so, as I based her on my granddaughter Daisy.

The papers and sentiment are from Cuddly Buddly and she is coloured with Copics.

Another Bear

This Pollycraft bear is for the Pollycraft Challenge this week, which is in fact, a sketch.

I had to reverse the position of the flowers to avoid having one stuck on Ted's balloon! I hope that's OK.

Crafty Ann's Challenge this week is Anything Goes, so he is for that too!

He's coloured with Copics and is mounted on Nesties. The flowers are made with a Snellen punch and emboss set, with a punched splat and pearl to complete them. The paper is from Cuddly Buddly and the embossing is Cuttlebug.

We went to watch Hampshire play cricket today at the Rose Bowl in the Executive Suite (courtesy of Southampton Audi). We normally just go in the general members area, but today we were with the creme de la creme so to speak! We had a very good lunch and as they have a viewing lounge, I didn't freeze and managed to stay there until the close of play!

It's like a building site at the moment, whilst new stands are being constructed. It should be fabulous when it's finished!

Card for a chap!

I took inspiration for this card (for my friend to give to her son) from several sources.

The sketch is based on that from Allsorts, with a few minor alterations in order for my chosen components to fit. I think that the image is from Dustin Pike, but can't be too sure.

The theme of Frogs and Snails and Puppy Dogs tails is taken from Crazy 4 Challenges.

The recipe of 3 embellishments (brads, corners and ribbon), 2 papers & 1 image is taken from the Secret Crafter's Saturday Challenge.

Cute Card Thursday's challenge this week is Boyz to Men.

I haven't been making as many cards as would like just recently, but things just seem to be conspiring against it at the moment.

SO I'd better press on!

Card for a little one!

A friend from my gym club (not that I've been for months) rang to ask me to make a card for her Great Niece. She hasn't any children of her own but is very close to her nephew. His daughter is very like a grandchild to her, but she really wanted to have the correct relationship on the card. Needless to say, she couldn't find anything in the shops.

Love is in the air! & OSCC DT call

Just recently I have had requests for 5 wedding cards... love certainly is in the air.

It began with this one for a friend from my choir, whose son is getting married as you can see on June 11th. Having the date on the card was a special request.

Next was the wedding which I myself attended last weekend. I didn't manage to take a picture of that card as I finished it practically as we were walking out of the door to leave for the wedding. It was a similar design to this one, but was in ivory and had a Mr & Mrs stamp in the corner instead of names or initials.

This one and the following one are for a friend to give to some of her fellow teachers. This one utilises the letterpress technique with an Impressabilities stencil. I dabbed it with silver ink before embossing. I love the effect it makes.The very last one was made following an emergency call last night from a friend from the gym, who will be attending a wedding this evening!It uses the same Impressabilities stencil , but this time without ink as I used a lovely pearlescent paper.

So instead of just one DT card for One Stop Craft's Wedding card challenge this week, here we have 4!

Charisma Cardz and C.R.A.F.T. also have wedding themes this week. SO these are for them too!
I have been in Bath babysitting for a couple of days, hence the lack of blogging or crafting. My daughter is setting up her own HR Consultancy business and is quite busy at the moment and so requires the services of Granny!

Last weekend totally confused me!

We went to a wedding on Friday, which of course made me think it was Saturday. Saturday then felt rather like Sunday and Sunday was Sunday of course and then the Bank holiday felt like Sunday, and now suddenly and without warning, it's Wednesday!

How did that happen?

Yesterday was spent doodling, I started scribbling in the morning and kind of continued for most of the day. Didn't particularly get anywhere, but there's loads of scrap paper in the bin!

I also watched a video on using the Spellbinders Impressabilities for a letterpress technique, so I dug one of those out and am about to have a go!

When you wish upon a star!

It took me quite a while to come up with an idea for the challenge of 'Stars and Swirls' at My Time to Craft this week. I decided to look through my collection of digi stamps to see if inspiration struck and this one of Bronson and Beaker from Pollycraft seemed to ring my bell!

The sentiment, which is from Unity stamps, seemed perfect for it. It also made me think of the Disney song 'When you wish upon a star' and so for this reason I thought it would be just right for challenge #88, 'Song Title', from Everybody Art.

A spoonful of Sugar would like to see 'Furry Friends', Bronson is quite furry isn't he!

The paper is Cuddly Buddly and the embossing is Divine Swirls from Cuttlebug.

Having a Bank Holiday this week has put me out of step slightly, it felt like Sunday yesterday.
