Do I? Don't I?

I really don't know if I like this card... I think that the tendency is to not like it.

I took the sketch from Clean & Simple, the colours of Burgundy, Lime Green and Fuschia from If the Shoe fits and the bird inspiration from Pals Paper Arts.

I think that the problem arose from trying to combine the challenges. I found the colour choice particularly challenging and I'm not a great exponent of inspiration challenges.

I think I'll just put it down to experience and say so more.

The image and sentiment are from Unity stamps.I overstampoed the fuschia background paper with a Tim Holtz background stamp in burgundy and then squirted a little Cosmic Shimmer Mist over it.

The bird was partly shaded with Copics and I went over the lime colour with a thin wash of copper Perfect Pearls, to tie in the texture of the image with the background.

Another Mother's Day Greeting

This card uses the sketch from Papertake Weekly Challenges and the theme of stitching from the Secret Crafter's Saturday Challenge.

A friend sent me an email to say that she needed a Mother's Day card and I decided to give her a bit of a choice. This is one of the cards she can choose from.

The papers are from Cuddly Buddly and the image, a favourite of mine from Penny Black, is coloured with my Copics.

The sentiment, which the sketch didn't actually call for, but I added anyway, is from Inkadinkado.

I used my Martha Stewart Crown Border punch for the central section of this card.

I must say that I am really enjoying using the things which I bought yesterday in Farnborough at the Craft Show.

I can't wait to use it all!

More Farnborough Goodies

Here I have used my flower cut and emboss punches and my Martha Stewart Border punch, which I bought at the Craft Fair in Farnborough yesterday.

This fabby duckling image from Penny Black seems right for so many occasions and here I have used him for a Mother's Day salutation.

I had wondered for some time how this set of flower punches worked. I watched a demo on one stand at the show, then went to another and bought them more cheaply. How mean is that?

Penny Black Challenge

Isn't this just THE most yummy image!

It's another of my trophies from the Farnborough show yesterday. It took me a while to re-find the stand that had £2 off rubber stamps, and then I had to really rummage to find the stamp amongst the crates which were full of them.

As it is from Penny Black, I thought I would use the sketch from their challenge this week. It's coloured with Copics and mounted on Cuddly Buddly papers.

I'm really quite pleased with this one! It's a great sketch!

Bee Crafty

For the next few cards or so it will be question of 'Spot the Stash' ... I'm sure that lots of my cards of the next few days will be utilising some of the goodies I bought at the craft show yesterday. This one, my contribution to Bee Crafty's challenge to use embossing this week, uses my new Martha Stewart 'round the corner' punch set. This one is called 'Crown'.

The image is mounted on my new Nesties Labels too!

The embossing is from an old favourite Cuttlebug embossing folder, but I did use one of my new replacement Copics. I love the warm grey shades and needless to say, I have used my first W1 & W3 up!

So that's not bad going for new things in one card!

Farnborough Show

Look what goodies I treated myself to at the Craft Show in Farnborough yesterday.

I had never been to a show before (apart from a Wedding Show at the NEC) and wasn't quite sure what to expect. This one was a manageable size but even so I sometimes had problems remembering on which stands I had seen something that I wanted to go back to see again!

There were some real bargains too, e.g. 4 sets of Nesties for £55.

I also bought some great stamps and punches and some replacement Copics and ink.

I didn't avail myself of any of the workshops or 'doing' things, but had a good time nevertheless.

Get Optimistically Pink!

When I saw the topic for the challenge from One Stop Crafts this week, my mind immediately went to this image from Pollycraft for my DT contribution.

This young bear Bailey, has been baking some cupcakes and is viewing the world through her rose coloured spectacles!

The sentiment which is a stamp from Unity stamps reads You're the cherry on top.

One of the papers is from Cuddly Buddly, but I don't quite remember where the deeper pink digi paper came from. The two ribbons are from my stash, the corner embellishment is from Cuttlebug and the mounts are Nesties.

Another challenge which involves pink and digi images is I love Digi Challenges, so this is for that challenge too!

Just Us Girls -Template Challenge

Just Us Girls challenge, has the task of using a template this week. This is something that I have done very little of and so it really was a challenge for me.

I printed a piece of card with the Cuddly Buddly Fairy Fun digi paper in Peach and then popped it back into the printer to print the template on the back!

The plain paper around the bottom of the box is edged with my SU eyelet border punch, and the ribbon adhered with double-sided tape. I made the bow with my bow maker.

The flowers on the heart at the top were made from a Woodware punch.

I'm sorry the pic is a bit wishy washy, but it is a very delicate pink!

With a bit of luck I'm off to the Craft Show at Farnborough today... if I can find it!

Black & White

I have been fiddling around with this card all evening, numerous sheets of variously folded paper are in the bin, but at last a card has emerged.

I watched a video on You Tube, on which I based this project, but I think that the lady in question was a little more adept than I am.

Dutch Dare - Gate Fold

It is, in fact a kind of glorified Gate Fold card. It opens in a similar manner, but has the flap at the top which tucks into one of the squares at the edge of the front fold. I decided to add a ribbon, which wraps around the folded card, but slips behind the motif on the front through two ribbon slits. The base paper is from Clare Curd's Signature Range and the the white die-cuts are Spellbinders Fleur de Lis Pendant. The sentiment is from Stampin'Up.

Bright and Beautiful!

This is another of the digi images from the School Fairy Designables range at Cuddly Buddly. The set contains pre-coloured images plus B/W line art, and it is the latter from which this card was made.

I coloured the image with Copics and also used Cuddly Buddly's Patchwork Yellow, Digi backing paper.

We had a lovely lunch with friends today and my garage bill was less than I'd anticipated, so a good day was had by all!

Season's Greetings

I bought this stamp with a bunch of others about 2 years ago. It has remained in the box since that time, but when I heard that the challenge from ABC Christmas, was E for Elf, the old grey matter whirred into action and I remembered this little chap.

I coloured him with my Copics in the required red and green for the challenge, and paper pieced the present with some dotty backing paper. I have to say that this was really fiddly!

The front of the card was embossed with a Nestie square and some smaller ones used for cutting and mounting the image.

The sentiment is from Papermania and the card is finished with a length of grosgrain ribbon!

We are meeting some friends for lunch today in Guildford, hopefully my car will be ready sometime before we have to leave, it's been in the garage for 3 days... an expensive 3 three days, it needed a couple of things to be done, at a cost which I expect will be approaching £1000. (If I'm to believe the costings told me over the phone). Still, apart from servicing, this car hasn't needed any attention ever since I bought it, so I should be grateful for small mercies I guess.

Dog's Mother's Day card

I was asked by a friend, to make a Mother's Day card for her partner, but it was to come from their dogs. They have a couple of black spaniels and I remembered that I had a stamp with three spaniel type dogs on it. I masked off one of them and this is the card which resulted.

The image is mounted on pearlised paper, shaped with a Martha Stewart flourish punch. The tag is part of a challenge prize of Spellbinders from Simon Says Stamp. As I didn't have any pink ribbon that was wide enough for it, I overlaid this narrow pink satin ribbon over some white organza. The flowers are from Prima, accented with tiny pearls.

Happy Birthday

The joy of entering challenges is that 'it does exactly what it says on the tin'... it challenges you to do something that you might not otherwise have tried. The case here is in the choice of colours from Tuesday Morning Sketches. They are dark brown, light orange and ivory, or should you speak fluent Stampin' Up, they would be translated as Chocolate Chip, Always Apricot and Very Vanilla.

I actually didn't have any genuine Stampin Up card or paper, so what I have used is my approximation. I would never have thought of combining these shades, but they are just great!

My image and sentiment however, are the genuine article from Stampin' Up, and the image fits with the challenge from Charisma Cardz, which is to make a birthday card and include candles!

I have used my Stampin' Up eyelet border punch to make both the straight and the curved edging.

Copic Challenge

I enjoyed colouring these pears!

The challenge this time around at Copic Colour Challenges, is to use these colours in a project. This card incorporates a few other shades too, but the general feel is similar.The image was a free digi download , I can't remember exactly where it was from, but I'll check and amend this later.

I thought that this image would be useful for anniversaries or engagements.

Yesterday I spent practically all day doing some sample cards for Cuddly Buddly. A new range of Bunny stamps and some text stamps will be on sale very soon, and as a 'Fabulously Crafty Friend', I was using a few stamps to show them in use. Do check out the website there's always something new, and as an online craft shop, they carry a huge range of things. You might see my cards too if you look closely enough!

Today I've been working on some commissions for friends, so I'm off now to look at a few challenges!

Another Slider Card

Yesterday I was watching a video about making Slider cards and today I watched another and this is the result.

I used the sketch from CPS #155 which I rotated through 90 degrees.

It's just plain pearly paper which in places I reinforced with plain card. The background is embossed with a Cuttlebug folder and the smaller rectangle is printed with a French Script background stamp from Stampin' Up. So this is also for the embossing challenge from Sophisticats.

I searched all over the place for the pearlised paper and eventually resorted to lying on the floor with a torch looking under the bed, which is where I found the box of paper... Hurrah! There was so little space under there that I had to get a ruler to fish it out!

The image is from Unity Stamps, which I printed once in Stazon and then a second time, without re-inking, to get the shadow effect.

The clever part of this, is the way in which it looks as though the ribbon goes right across the card, which would probably make the slide impossible, but it's a cute method and you can see the video I watched here.

The birds' section is mounted on dimensional pads to give a little space for the ribbon behind it and as such qualifies for the challenge at Crafty Creations where the theme is 'Cut it out and pop it up!'

The sentiment on the slide is from Stampin' Up.

The bit I got wrong again today, was in not shortening the card slightly to allow for the knot in the ribbon at the side. I shall probably have to make a special envelope now to compensate!

You know how sometimes you're just pleased with a card you've made... well this is one of them!

To begin with, I was thinking about Julia's expression of 'Push Back' from last week's post, I think actually, after doing it all week, that my method is more 'Push Aside' or 'Push Off'. Certainly a lot of stuff ends up on the floor!

If you look closely at this lot you will probably be able to work out what I was using to make the card that I am going to post on my blog when I have finished this diatribe.

Yesterday I was looking at You tube videos and getting inspired, however there's always one small thing that is usually of utmost importance, that I either omit all together or forget to do.

The upcoming one is no exception to this.

Back to today, and I am now sitting on a new craft chair, having exchanged the one I was sitting on yesterday because the material (I thought it was leather) had ripped around some stitching on one of the arms. Staples made no quibble!

You can just peek into my top left hand drawer which is where I keep all my sticky stuff... of which there is a variety.

I struggled to make a hole through several layers with my paper punch, and so had to resort to my Making Memories whatsit. (I don't possess a Cropadile or the like.) Even that took quite a few zaps before I got through all the layers.

You're probably going to have a look at my next post to see what I was up to! I was actually quite pleased with the outcome.

Just to refer back to last week for a moment, I had the book of prints of my unmounted stamps, (some folks thought I was being really organised,) but it actually began because I bought a job lot of about 100 sentiment stamps and I couldn't read what half of them said, so I had to take a print to find out. Afterwards, I thought it a good idea to put the prints into a book for reference! The stamps are in these little drawers.

Slider card

I thought that I would try to make one of these slider cards after I had seen a YouTube demo video. I watched the video this morning and after taking various cars in for servicing, getting my craft chair changed because some of the stitching had ripped, having lunch etc. etc. I came to make the card this afternoon and had a couple of problems remembering what exactly I had seen in the morning!

On the whole it's not too bad, EXCEPT I forgot to shorten the length of the card and because of the tab, it will no longer fit into a normal envelope. I think I will have to make one specially!
It's for the challenges from Stampin' Bs Design Team - Split Negative and Totally Papercrafts - Lots of Spots.

I learned the Split negative technique last week so I thought I would try it again before I forgot how to do that too!

I think I learn something new every day.

In the frame

For the challenge at My Time to Craft this week I decided to make a shaker card.

The frame is a rubber stamp from the Miss Daisy Collection at Cuddly Buddly, which I heat embossed in silver and shaded with Copics.

I don't know if you've noticed, but there is a Giveaway going on at Cuddly Buddly at the moment. Each week, Kim is giving away a set of three new stamps to some lucky person who has left a comment on the blog! Might be worth a visit!

I discovered a roll of double sided adhesive 3D tape in Poundland, together with some 3D pads. Such good value... I must go back for more! This tape made the shaker box so much easier to construct. Previously I'd been using rows of tiny 3D squares, which was very fiddly, with this tape however, it can be done very quickly in comparison.

The box is mounted on a silver square and filled with varying sized silver hearts.

The papers are from Cuddly Buddly and the corner embellishments are from Cuttlebug dies.

I think that this card might be useful for engagements or weddings, or just to send a little love!

Mother's Day

I came across this stamp in my drawer, which I haven't used for about a year or so and thought it about time to use it again.

I began by colouring it with distress inks, but the colours I had didn't give me the depth of colour that I wanted, so I ended up going over it with my Copics.

I mounted the image on Nesties and arranged the card in a simple layout. I made a tag out of Nesties by punching a couple of ribbon holes, for the computer generated sentiment.

The scallop punch at the bottom of the card is from Martha Stewart.

The papers are Pink Petticoat Rainbow collection.

Music Challenge

At Crafty Ann's Challenge Blog the theme is 'If music be the food of love' ... a very famous Shakespearean quote!

For the music elements in this card I have stamped a piece of manuscript, plus the fiddle.

The background is stamped with a Stampin' Up French script stamp and I have made the border of the circle with a Fiskars border punch. I think it's called Sunburst or something like that. I made it fit around the circle by almost snipping through the border between each scallop. The sentiment is also by SU.

The flower is by Prima with an added splat centre and a few adhesive pearls.

Now for a little TV this evening, starting with The Antiques Roadshow!

Colour and Sketch

This card takes the colours from Just Us Girls and the Sketch from Cards & Things.

The colours are approximate however, as I don't have the exact shades of the Stampin' Up examples, namely, Cameo Coral, Vanilla, Chocolate Chip and Rich Razzelberry.

It also has wings (albeit a very small pair on this tiny bird) for the theme this week from The Corrosive Challenge.

The stamp is a recently acquisition from Stampin' Up and the sentiment is Papermania. I used 'Swiss Dots' embossing on the cream background and 'Victoria' embossing folder on the coral section.

The little bird is the hint of raspberry!

I think that this card might prove useful for a variety of occasions.

One old friend and 2 new Challenges

This card is for a challenge which I have entered many times and thus feels like an old friend, but it's also for two others which I discovered only this morning.

The 'old friend' is the Secret Crafter's Saturday Challenge, where the theme is Mother's Day, but I used the sketch from Sunday Sketch & Stamp, and if my understanding is correct, it's for the 'Pink' Challenge at Stempeltraume!

The latter two blogs were found on Valerie's new Blog entitled Trouvez Challenges or Find Challenges.

This is the same paper/card which I used and wasn't too keen on, on my baby card, a few posts back, but for an adult I think it's fab!

The background stamping is Penny Black and you may have noticed that I turned a piece of Stampin' Up straight border punching into a curved one once more.

The large butterfly is from a Tonic Studios punch and the small ones from X Cut. All are Glamour Dusted!

The sentiment is Inkadinkado!

Easter Bunny

I bought this Penny Black stamp recently and to me it looks perfect for an Easter or Spring card. The little bunny certainly looks full of of the joys of Spring doesn't he!

The image is coloured with Copics, mounted on Nesties, with a Cuddly Buddly digi paper as background. The tiny sentiment is from SU. The corner embellishments are from Cuttlebug.

The challenge from Penny Black this week is to use the colours yellow, pink and green, a lovely combination for this time of year.

As the paper is a beautiful gentle check, I'd add it as a second submission to Papertake's 'Check this out' challenge.

This simple layout is a favourite of mine too!

Try something new!

Our Creative Corner this week, is challenging us to try a new technique. My first thought was that if it was new, I probably hadn't heard of it, but most helpfully they have added links where various techniques are listed and described.

Having a read through some of the headings, I was grabbed by the making of a gift bag, which was something I had never tried. I wanted to give a small gift to my daughter's friend for her new baby. I had made her a card, (which I posted a few items back) and so thought I would make a bag to match.

The instructions called for a very large envelope, which I didn't have, so I made something similar from a sheet of A3 paper.

The patterned paper was added to the front and it was folded to make a gusset. I scalloped the top with a Tonic Studios edge punch, and made a topper to match the card. I reinforced the inside of the bag with a couple of strips of card before punching holes for the ribbons.

The papers are Fairy Fun digi papers from Cuddly Buddly and the image is from a fab Penny Black stamp which I have just acquired... coloured with Copics!

One Stop Crafts - Wall Hanging

I was at a bit of a loss as to what to do for my DT contribution for One Stop Craft's challenge this week. Then I thought of the sort of thing that I'd seen hanging on Nursery Walls.

SO I drew this little angel about to drop a star into the evening sky! It's just on card, but I think it would be good in wood. Sadly, I don't do woodwork!

I wound some wire around a pencil for the hanger, I think should have put in some eyelets for strength, but I can do that before I give it away.

The sentiment reads Star light, star bright, Angels hang the stars at night.

It's coloured with Copics with a little Glamour dust added to the wings and the stars.

Welcome the weekend!

I thought I would group a few cards in one posting today.

The first is for DP2 Challenge. It really was a challenge too, as the instructions were to use one of Mo Manning's images and 1 piece of ribbon... NO layers!

Ahem! Easier said than done. Anyway here it is, image and sentiment printed right onto the card and coloured with Copics. I shall have to add to layers to the inside of the card however to disguise where the colour from the markers has bled through. The ribbon is threaded through 2 holes, starting from the inside and finishing up on the outside. I added adhesive pearls where the ribbons go through the card.

This next card is for the 'Sepia' challenge at Creative Inspirations.

The background was stamped with the French Script background stamp from SU, and distressed with a random dot stamp using distress inks. The image is from a Magenta stamp which I bought on a visit to my son in Bury St Edmunds. This is also distressed and coloured using distress inks.

The last one is for the Touch of Spring challenge at Stamp Something. I don't quite remember where the stamp came from, I think it was probably eBay, but it is unmounted and so I don't know the make. The sentiment is a Debbi Moore stamp.

It's freezing here at the moment. There was a hard frost this morning but the sun is shining and the sky is blue!

I haven't got any daffodils out yet, but I have spotted a snowdrop or two in my garden... (thinks...) I must dig out my snowdrop stamps!!

Pals Paper Arts

I have just discovered Pals Paper Arts challenge blog and loved what I saw.

I think that although I do lots of challenges with complicated sketches, I really feel that my preferred style is simple and unfussy!

My daughter asked me to make a card to give to her next door neighbour, whose cat has just died. She lives alone with her 2 cats and so the loss of one is deeply felt. I thought it was a lovely thought on my daughter's part.

I made the surround of the oval following a tutorial pointed out by my friend Clare on the Cuddly Buddly Forum.

It's a strip of Martha Stewart border punch, almost snipped through between each scallop and then curved around the oval.

Otherwise it's just an image of a cat, coloured with Copics, and mounted on Nesties accompanied by a ribbon.

The neighbour's cat was grey, which was the reason for my choice of grey for the card.

New Baby

My daughter asked me to make a congratulations card for her friend who gave birth to a daughter yesterday. She requested a stork & baby card (I have a cute Quickutz 2 piece die which she likes), but she asked me NOT to use baby pink as the new mum wasn't keen on it, but to use more of a fuchsia pink instead .

So I used a strong pink and I really don't like it.I don't know if the new mum will like it, but to me it's just not the thing. So I went ahead and made a card for her from me (I have met this friend several times) and I HAVE used baby pink. I'm blogging both cards so that you can make your own judgement. To my mind the strong pink is too harsh for a tiny baby. It doesn't actually go with the name they have chosen either, Amber is a warm colour and this pink is very cold. Hey Ho!

It is the top card that I am entering into a few challenges.

I have several things to get on with today and it's been one of those days when I'm dripping around doing a lot of not much!

Flossie and her doll

I love Mo Manning's images and this is a favourite, although until now unused.

I paper pieced her dress and started to wish I hadn't once I started cutting... it's very fiddly!

At the outset, I also paperpieced the dolly's dress with the negative paper from from Flossie's, but the contrast was not marked enough and it all looked like one. So she was stripped of her garments and just shaded a tad with Copics.

Wednesday already!

Snoop time has arrived.

I got a considerable amount done yesterday... craft-wise that is. Lots of cards for Cuddly Buddly, where I hold the not-inconsiderable title of Fabulously Crafty Friend! It really means that I design cards for their range of rubber and digi stamps.

The idea is to give potential purchasers some ideas of how the products can be used. If you're anything like me I see something that someone has done and it gives me an idea, not necessarily a copy exactly, but it makes me think of my interpretation of that idea.

Today my desk is cluttered with the detritus of my last card, which I just posted on my blog. I masked a sentiment so that it would fit into a SU word window without its traily bits. The folder shoved unceremoniously on top of the small drawers has samples of my unmounted stamps in. They are in the small drawers on the shelf. I wouldn't remember half of what I have stashed away in there if I hadn't taken a print of them for reference.

The second picture shows my printer, which is behind me and to my right. The drawer that is open contains Christmas and special occasion stamps, I've just been digging around for Easter and Mother's Day stuff.
I haven't actually taken a print of each of these... maybe I should, it's hard to remember from one year to the next what exactly I have got in there!

Joy-Fold Card

I decided that I would try another Joy-Fold card after seeing that the theme at the Secret Crafter's Saturday Challenge was for a multifold card.

I combined this with the challenges from Stampavie and the Creative Card Crew, both of which have Get Well cards as the topic this week. I think that flowers cheer anyone up don't you!

I also made this card as a sample card for Cuddly Buddly. It uses the B/W line drawings from the digi download entitled Garden Fairies, which I coloured with Copics. The download also contains coloured images, which are really useful if card-making time is short.
The papers, also a Cuddly Buddly download are called Fairy Fun Papers Charcoal.

The little daisy on the front is to keep the central section closed if required, it just tucks in behind it.

CPS Card Sketch & Allsorts

I had a little play around with this image from The Stamping Boutique, and after I had printed the main image I enlarged it a little and masked off the little girl so that I could just print out a few chicks to use as embellishments... I also flipped a couple of them to face in the opposite direction.

I used the sketch from CPS Card Sketches and used the 3-2-1- formula from Allsorts Challenge. In this case it's 3 embellishments, 2 patterned papers and 1 image.

The papers are Cuddly Buddly downloads.
