Something old, something new...

I have combined three challenges with this one. The sketch is from Inspirational Card Sketches, the theme of 'Weddings' is from the Creative Card Crew and added to this is the requirement of at least 4 buttons from Pile It On.
The papers are from Pink Petticoat and the sentiment stamp is from My Sentiments Exactly.
I used the last of my white buttons on this, so my box will have to be replenished very soon. Two packs of buttons arrived today, but no white ones!
I also thought you might like to see a little picture of the birthday girl.
My granddaughter Daisy is 1 year old!

365 Cards Days 120, 121 & 122

Day122 It's a wrap!

We had a fabulous couple of days with our Granddaughter for the celebration of her first birthday. Today my daughter has returned to work following her maternity leave and Daisy has started Nursery for a whole day for the first time. She will be doing 3 days a week from now on. It's all a bit sad! I know Nursery will be good for her, but I think that if the financial situation was a little different, my daughter would still be at home with her.
I'll post some pictures of the birthday girl when my daughter sends them later.
These card are for the last three days of 365 Cards, Super Sketchy Sunday, Four seasons, and It's a wrap. Day 121 The four seasons
Day 120 Super Sketchy Sunday
The 'sketch' is self-explanatory, the '4 seasons' is fairly easy to fathom, but 'It's a wrap' enatils using some wrapping paper.
How did 365 Cards know that I was going to pinch some of granddaughter's wrapping paper from one of her 1st birthday presents? I got home and turned on the internet to see what the latest challenge was only to find that what I had taken would be just right for the latest challenge!!
There you go a bit of karma!
The tree stamps are from Stampin Up. I think the little bunny is a Sugar Nellie, but I'm not sure.
I've got a set of 60th birthday invites and reply cards to do plus a set of Christening invitations too. I guess I'll be busy for a while.

My first Dare U 2 Digi Stamp Challenge

I am just captivated by these fabulous images from Chris Dark, and as it is a digital image, this challenge is a good place to start.
I have decided to combine it with the Stamp Something's Embellished Somethings Challenge where 3 embellishments should be used.
I have also included Use It's Challenge whose recipe this week is
1. Something inspired by nature (the bluebells)2. Polka Dots (the vellum) 3. Your favourite embellishment (the brads) and 4. To make it for someone special.
I think that anyone worthy of a handmade card must be special!
The image has been coloured with Marvy Pens and a water brush, plus a little watercolour paint.
The stamped sentiment is from MSE mounted on Nesties and the flourish behind it is from Cuttlebug.
The blue backing paper is a download from Canon.

365 Cards Day 119 Seeing a Silhouette

I've had this Penny Black stamp for ages, although I haven't managed to use it until now. Thanks 365!
It's really clever how the depth perception is given by the surface texture of the stamp. It's great isn't it!
Again my simple style, which could be quite a good card for a chap. I decided to do the whole card in shades of brown. I used Stazon Timber brown for the stamping and the paper for the leaves (Leonie Em punch) is a complementary shade with a wood grain texture.
The sentiment stamp is Hero Arts.
Simples!

Pure & Simple

I actually love the simplicity of this card. I really think that the minimal style is more me, but I get swept away with the requirements of some challenges and I don't always like what I end up with.
Whereas I can appreciate the work and skill that goes into lots of the more complicated styles, they seem more like works of art rather than greetings cards. I guess the best thing is to do a little of lots of styles and that should please a whole lot of people (hopefully).
Well this card is for Cute Card Thurday's Challenge #66 'Wheely good fun'. The stipulation was that there should be wheels on the card.
This cute stamp from Stampin Up has wheels and I love it. It's from a set with elongated bits and pieces on the images... great isn't it! The sentiment is from my new bunch of stamps from My Sentiments Exactly. Cut & embossed with Nesties.

Mojo Monday Week 92 & Charisma Cards Challenge

I had printed this lovely daisy stamp in two sizes and wondered what to do with them, so after colouring, I decided to try the Mojo Monday sketch. It kind of works...ish, but not to worry as I just love the image which is another from Chris Dark. What an incredibly talented lady she is!
I coloured them with Marvy Pens and a water brush, with just a little watercolour for the white.
The paper is K&Co and the sentiment from Hero Arts. I can see me going back to the Sketching Stamper Digi Stamps for some more images! I just love them.
Charisma Cards have an anything goes week this week, so this card is for that challenge too!

365 Cards Day 118 I've been framed!

Here are two of my new stamps from MSE. It took three attempts to get the sentiment printed without a smudge, the first two cards will have to have backing paper on the front of them to cover my mistakes... I can't just throw out two card blanks!
The frame was printed, and the centre cut out with a Nestie and the edges cut with my Woodware Finger Guard Trimmer using the Victorian cutting blade.
The flower from Poundland or Wilkinson's, (not sure which,) has a punched Blink with the addition of a Cuttlebug flower centre.
My copy of Craft Stamper arrived today. I was amazed to see that a stamp design I had submitted some weeks ago, although not chosen for the freebie in the August issue, had been short-listed! I was really pleased!! Check it out if you take the magazine!

There goes that shoe again!

I just love this image which I bought yesterday from Chris Dark of Sketching Stamper Digi stamps.
I still can't colour it as well as she does.. maybe I could do with a few lessons. I used some Derwent Inktense pencils and a water brush to do the colouring. I really like them, but haven't totally mastered the technique just yet.
I used the sketch from Truly Scrumptious for this card but transposed it as I felt that the image worked better on the right-hand side of the card.
I think that this shoe will be getting quite a few more outings!
Welcome drop of rain last night, but I hope it will be fine for the rest of the weekend for Daisy's 1st birthday celebrations!

Fabulous download

I haven't really used digi-downloads much in the past, but when I saw this fabulous image by Chris Dark of Sketching Stamper Digi stamps I knew that a purchase was imminent! This is such a glamorous shoe and I just love it.. I just need to keep practising my colouring!
The card is for the ABC Challenge - Two-Tone, for which I have used gold and blue. I hand stamped and heat-embossed the background paper and added a sentiment which arrived today from MSE.
Papertake's Weekly Challenge is entitled Delightful Downloads... there couldn't be an image much more delightful than this could there!

365 Cards Days 116 & 117

I had a lovely day with Daisy, my granddaughter yesterday. We took a stroll into Bath and did a little retail therapy together (actually she was napping most of the time) but she was cooed over many times... made me very proud!
Today I have to catch up with yesterday's 365 challenge plus today's... and here they are.
The challenge for the wedding card was to convey the sentiment of the card without any printed word. The image, a stamp from Rubber Stampede, rather does that for me on this one.
The label shapes are Nesties and the embossing Cuttlebug.

Today's card is simplicity itself. One image, one sentiment and nothing else!
Coloured with Marvy Pens and a water brush. I just scribbled a little colour onto a glass plate and picked up the colour with my water brush. As the Meercat would say 'Simples'

Bits & pieces

I'm not too sure about this one, and I may offer my friend an alternative... we'll see. Her colleague is leaving and will definitely be missed.
A simple card using paper piecing, and Cuttlebug wording.
I'm off to Bath shortly to babysit my granddaughter with an early start tomorrow, so I'll spend the night in my new loft bedroom!
Preparations are underway for the 1st birthday celebrations this weekend. What excitement!

Dutch Dare Colour Inspiration

The friend who wanted the doctor's retirement card some weeks ago asked me for a 70th birthday card for her mother-in-law.
She wasn't sure what she wanted putting on the front, as the card was to be from the family, all of whom called her different things. She calls her Val, her husband calls her Mum and the children call her Granny. So I asked if she'd like all three titles added to the card, and this is why we have the three salutations.
When going through my various papers to find a suitable pastel shade, the Dutch Dare Challenge picture came to mind when I came across this K&Co stack. They are all yellowish, but with the chalking and the addition of the plain card, the colour seems to be about spot on.
The lettering is all from Cuttlebug dies. We have Fancy Pants, You're not the boss of me and Typewriter. The leaves and butterflies are from punches and the flower centres are from another Cuttlebug flower which I added to my Poundland cheap spray with a touch of Glamour Dust.
I really liked the effect of the 9 squares which I used on a card the other day, so I tried it again!

My friends keep me busy!

This card is the first of three that my friend asked to make yesterday. ( We had a fab barbecue by the way. I can recommend M&S cheese stuffed burgers! )
Anyway, to continue... it's for an ex-colleague of hers and I was informed that she liked music or cats. As you can see I opted for the cat.
The sketch is from The Pink Elephant, the technique is from Penny Black where embossing was requested, and 365 Cards chose the predominant colour...'Lovin' Lavender'
I have used White Wash Coredinations paper which I double embossed for the squares. The first time was de-bossed with the circles and sanded and the second time was embossed with the tiny hearts and inked. The die cuts are Cuttlebug and the image is Penny Black.
Now on to the next one!

Off to a barbecue!

Just a quick card before we go to join friends for a barbecue lunch.
This is a combination of the sketch from 365 Cards, the colour theme from Pile it on and the recipe from Use it!
Pile it on asked for purple, well this is a bit purply, and it is combined with other challenges which is also a stipulation of that blog!
The recipe from Use it is
1/Use patterned paper scraps you've had for more than 1 year!
2/Use chipboard
3/Use paint
4/Use a rub-on
5/Optional: Use foam dots
I used Pink Petticoat paper which was printed ages ago and has been curling up in the drawer ever since.
The chipboard has sat in its tin for quite a while too waiting for an opportunity to be used.
The sentiment rub-on is also a first time use from EZ Rub-ons.
I have used foam dot for the centre of the flowers but I think that they will be coming off as I don't like the effect.
The chipboard was coloured white then shaded with a whisper pen before being sprayed with a little Spray & Sparkle. Thanks to Jackie for the tip about spraying in a box to avoid twinkle going everywhere! The over-flower is Cuttlebug.
The sketch is from 365 Cards today.
The flourish bits were left over from a card I made yesterday, using the flourish to make an aperture.
That's it.
The soiree last night was great fun and I'm just off to make a dip to take with me to the BBQ for lunch.

365 Cards Day 112 Everlasting Love

Another wedding card.
The stipulation today at 365 Cards was that the word LOVE must appear on the card. I chose to stamp the quotation from Corinthians often read at weddings, which begins, 'Love is patient, love is kind...' So LOVE appears quite a few times on this card.
The embossing is Cuttlebug Stylised flowers. I rotated the folder and embossed it in two parts in order to cover a larger area. The leaves are from a Leonie Em punch and the flowers are from my cheap spray from Poundland.
We have an informal concert followed by an American Supper at my choir tonight, so I'm going to have to get going on my contribution to the food.

2 cards for my friend

My friend keeps me quite busy making cards for her friends and family. These are birthday cards for her mother and her son.
The Papermania paper was the inspiration for the Mum's card. There is a sheet of paper similar to the effect on this card in the pack, but it was too large for my purposes so I cut down each individual square in order to make them fit. It took the colours from the Secret Crafter's Challenge this week, although the shades of green and pink are somewhat muted. The butterfly is Cuttlebug, and the flower and leaves are from Woodware punches.
As this card has a certain amount of Bling & Twinkle I thought it would also fit with Charisma Cards' theme of 'Diamonds are a girl's best friend'!

The son's card has been embossed with a Cuttlebug folder and the lettering is from the Cuttlebug Typewriter alphabet. The stars are cut with an X Cut punch and are in line with Our Creative Corner's theme this week. The image is from a clear stamp set, I think it's something to do with Hollywood, but I don't exactly remember the name of the maker. I really ought to be a little more organised and keep the packaging of my clear sets so that I know what I am using!
As both cards include numbers, either could be considered for the Challenge at One STOP crafts this week.

Thinking of you

I started to make a card for a friend's mother's 75th birthday and thought I would try to use the sketch from one challenge and the colours from another.
Stamp Something's theme this week is black & white + 1 other colour. I chose this shade of lilac and white, but when putting them with the black, it looked more like a sympathy card than a birthday card, so that's what I made instead. I used the sketch from Friday Sketchers and added the sentiment 'Thinking of you' .
The papers are Pink Petticoat and the image is from Penny Black. The sentiment is Papermania.
The flower has been paper-pieced and a little Spray and Sparkle added to the main image.

Lovely, lovely colours!

I've been trying to find an outlet to use this lovely floral paper and today was the day. It was a download from somewhere or other but has been sitting in the drawer for ages, so sadly as I don't remember where I got it from, I won't be able to get any more!
The sketch is from the Next Level, with the detachable tag. Because of this I think it qualifies for Cute Card Thursday's 'Tag You're it!'. For the 'bold colours and stripy paper' it's for today's 365 Cards Challenge, for Daring Cardmakers it's 'Thinking of You' for Just Magnolia it's 'Summer' and ABC Challenge this week is also 'S' for Summer!
I think I make that 6 Challenges.
The image was coloured with Whisper Pens and a water brush. The border is Martha Stewart and the flowers are from X Cut punches, embossed with Cuttlebug folders. The tag was made with Nesties and the sentiment is from Papermania.
I quite enjoyed making this one.

Top Tip - DIY Lego 'Stampamajig' Masking Tutorial

Michelle has asked me to explain how I used my DIY Lego 'Stampamajig' on my Duck card for Day 110 of 365 Cards, so I thought that I would have a go at explaining!
I began by stamping the duck image on card.

I then stamped an identical image on another piece of paper and cut out the top part only. (I didn't want either of the legs of the duck at the rear of the image to show as they would be at a funny angle.)
I stamped the duck image again onto a square piece of plastic packaging, using Stazon ink. (I used the outer from a set of Nestabilities, but fruit or vegetable packaging will do just as well.)
This was placed snugly into the corner of the Lego corner shape (Stampamajig) and the stamp fitted snugly into the same corner. When cutting the plastic, I left a little of the edge on a couple of sides, so that it didn't slip under the Lego. Unfortunately, this doesn't show up too well on the picture.
I then placed the mask exactly over the original duck and positioned the plastic in the desired position over this.

I then placed the lego carefully up to the plastic, removed the plastic, (keeping the lego exactly where it was), and stamped the image again ensuring the stamp was placed snugly into the corner of the Lego again.
After you remove the mask, the second duck is peeping over the shoulder of the original.
That's the theory anyway!
If things are still unclear, do ask and I'll try to explain a little more.

Catch Up!

I've been a little busy this week.
On Tuesday I went to Bath to babysit my granddaughter and yesterday my husband and I went to Royal Ascot!
I have never been to a race meeting before and it has been something that I have always wanted to to do. This outing was a joint birthday treat for us both. We had a wonderful time and had a few successful bets. The Queen waved to me as she went by in her landau; she looked very pretty in pink!
The food was wonderful, if a little expensive, and we just had to have a little champagne didn't we! It was quite tiring , but a most enjoyable day.
Today I have been trying to catch up on a few challenges.

Today's challenge from 365 Cards is to create a masculine card and include an argyle pattern somewhere. For this I used the sketch from Card Patterns. It is also for both Cuttlebug Spot and Cuttlebug Challenges' Father's Day Cards.
A friend of mine requested a Father's Day card for her husband to include 2 ducks. She has had many cards with this duck image on, however it is the ONLY duck image that I possess. So I decided to do a little masking to put one duck behind the other. The female can be distinguished from the male by the addition of the flower! She is supposed to be peeking over his shoulder.
I used my DIY Lego Stampamajig to position the second duck and it worked beautifully! I have added a quick tutorial on how I did this above this posting.
The image is from Penny Black and the papers from Canon. The sentiment is computer generated.
This next card is for Day 109 for 365 Cards which is to use the colours green, yellow, orange, brown, and aqua. It is a slight cheat in that I have used Timber brown Stazon ink to print the images and the jar containing the flowers is tinted with the aqua shade.The other colours are fairly obvious. The card for 365 cards Day 108 (Masculine - non-adult) is a birthday card for the son of one of my daughter's friends... one of my granddaughter's contemporaries. It is the same general layout as my 'It's a girl' card from Day 107 of 365 Cards. Sizzix teddy, Cuttlebug balloon, Cuttlebug Babyface lettering.

Sketch & Stash

There are several new things on this card.
I bought a can of spray glitter from my local Paper Mill shop... I didn't do a brilliant job of spraying this piece of pink card... got glitter everywhere. The lady in the shop told me to use it in a well ventilated space. I had the window open and the spray blew everywhere!! I also think I had the can too close to the card. I'll do better next time.
This lovely stamp was sent to me free with some other stamps which I bought on eBay from a seller in the USA. How kind is that? I love the stamp and probably would have bought it if I'd seen it on sale.
The tags at the side of the image are Cuttlebug sliders from the Tiny Tags set, which I cut in half. Another first time use, although I've had them for ages.
I'm quite glad that I kept it to the two main colours, the embossed flowers on the white card are also from a Cuttlebug folder.

365 Cards Day 107 - So Girly & Our Creative Corner - Border Punches

I've not been terribly creative today. I wanted to use a Sizzix embossing folder which had the same text as I have used with my Cuttlebug Typewriter alphabet, but I couldn't work out a sketch for it. So I'm back to an old favourite layout that I have used many times. It's simple but it works.
The feet are a stamp by Anita's and the embossing my favourite Swiss Dots!
The border is from a Martha Stewart punch.
365 Cards wanted the word 'Girl' somewhere on the card and Our Creative Corner's Challenge was to use a border punch.
As the letters from this alphabet are so tiny I stick some double sided tape onto the back of the card BEFORE I run it through my Cuttlebug machine, so that I don't have to try to glue teeny individual pieces. The dot on the 'i' is particularly titchy. Even so, trying to get the backing off the small bits is a bit like playing tiddlywinks!

The Pink Elephant - Weddings ~ Pile it on - At least 2 different ribbons ~ Friday Sketchers - Sketch ~ ABC Challenge R-Roses

I'm not hugely pleased with this card. It's almost OK, but not quite. Anyway, I've other cards to get on with so it will have to do.
I love the Sketch from Friday Sketchers, I think I'll try it again with another card very soon. I inked the flourishes with Bazzil Ink in 'Romance', quite an appropriate name for a colour used on a wedding card!
The shapes are Nesties and the embossing is Cuttlebug.
Pile it On Challenge blog asked for at least 2 different ribbons; they are rather similar both being organza, however they are different colours and different widths.
The roses are for ABC's challenge this week, which has reaches 'R'.

Pink Elephant Inspirational Play Along & One Stop Crafts - Add some Sparkle

I had looked at the picture of this magazine on The Pink Elephant blog several times and loved the colours in the frontispiece. I thought I really would like to have a go, but didn't have anything even remotely in the right colours. I found the backing paper as a free download from Canon and once I had that and searched through my plain sheets of paper and card I was away!
The flowers are made from Woodware punches and the butterfly is from a Cuttlebug die. The sentiment is by Hero Arts. Although the green is rather vibrant I think that on the whole the effect is quite soothing.
One Stop Crafts challenge this week is to add some sparkle. I don't know if you can see it, but there is Glamour Dust on the butterfly and the edges of the flowers. There's nothing quite like a bit of twinkle is there!

P.S. I've just had a look at these two images next to each other and I think that I should have distressed the edges of the circle a little, instead of just chalking them. I may have a play later ... I'll see.

365 Cards Day 106 Super Sketchy Sunday

I had been asked by a friend to make a card for a retiring art teacher. I had cut out a palette and had been messing around with it for a while yesterday, but wasn't happy with anything I did.
When I saw the sketch from 365 Cards this morning, it was like an answer to a maiden's prayer... the shape on the sketch was so redolent of the palette that I knew immediately that this sketch would work for me.
And here it is. I mounted the sentiment onto card which is like a blank canvas... after all that's probably what the outset of his retirement will be.
I hope that the recipient will be pleased!

365 Card Day 105 Sing along Saturday & Cuttlebug Challenges - At the Movies

I struggled with the Singalong challenge from 365 Cards. All I could picture was Kermit the Frog singing The Rainbow Connection. I don't have a Kermit stamp and the only rainbow stamp I could find in my collection was this tiny one... so here it is.
For the Cuttlebug Challenge, the theme was 'At the Movies' and I had to do something inspired by my favourite film. I must have watched 'You've got mail' a million times, I think I almost know it word for word, so naturally I wanted to use this film as my inspiration. It took me a while to think of an image to use, but then this one came to mind and this is its first outing. It's a bit ironic really that the kind of mail on the card is the complete antithesis of email! That thought kind of appeals to me though!

One of the ones I missed! 365 Cards Day 101 Veggies

To include veggies had me stumped for a while as I searched around for an image.
I ended up with mushrooms, however, you have to look kinda hard to see them but they're there!
The sentiment stamp is from Clare Curd's Signature Range.
Now I need to see what I can come up with for today's challenge, not a lot of inspiration as yet however.
I had to dash out to the store not long ago to replace my craft chair. I use a small, whizzy typist's chair so that I can swivel round to use my paper cutters which are on a table behind my desk. I had a bit of a jolt this morning when mid-manoeuvre one of the legs with the castors on simply snapped off. I couldn't think what had happened for the moment... I hadn't even started on the G&Ts.

Penny Black Challenge - Celebration!

There isn't a graduation in our family this year, but I like this little chap so much I thought I'd make another card with him in the hope that someone will need a graduation card soon. It is that time of year after all.
The paper is from Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen's Venaissance range. The sentiment is Stampin Up, the corners, Cuttlebug and of course the Top Dog is Penny Black.

The Next Level Issue 2

I missed the first of the Next Level challenges as I was in Spain, but read the technique for this challenge with great interest. What a good idea to give you the 'know how' and then give you the chance to have a go yourself. Brilliant!
My card itself is rather simple, but I think that the effect of using ribbon in this way is just great.

Stamp Something - Sketch Challenge & Use It #14

For the Use it Challenge this time the recipe is to use Pink, Scallops and a Tag. The clear sentiment stamps from Clare Curd's Signature range are so useful. It has been hard up to now to find sentiments small enough to fit on these tiny tags from Cuttlebug, but there are several in the set which fit beautifully. Being clear, they are also easy to position correctly.
The sketch is from Stamp Something and I have squished it a little to make it square rather than rectangular. Sadly I don't know the make of the stamp, which I bought from a website, second hand, or 'gently used' as it was described. It looks as though it has been home-mounted and therefore has no brand name.

365 Cards - Grass & Cute Card Thursday - Quotations

This is the simplest of cards... but I quite like it. I love the quotation, which reads ' Heaven is under our feet as well as over our heads' . When I saw that the theme for 365 cards today was 'Grass' this stamp immediately came to mind.
It is mounted on a slight slant and so I used my DIY lego 'Stampamajig' in order to stamp it in line with the grain of the card. It worked like a dream, I love it.
I just couldn't resist stamping the little ladybird!

Bumper Challenge Card!

I missed my friend's birthday celebrations whilst I was on holiday and so made her card rather belatedly today.
It is Sketch #18 from Card Patterns, uses 4 papers from Creative Inspirations' Challenge, incorporates scraps, 4 papers, die-cuts and bling from the Use It Challenge, has a shoe theme for Papertake's Shoetime Challenge and has no stamped sentiment for Pile it On's combo of challenges this week. I make that 5 Challenges!
Phew!
My first day back at the gym today after 2 week's holiday... don't I know it. I found the class quite tough.

Mojo Monday Week 90 ~ One Stop Craft - Under Pressure ~ Pink Elephant Pink, White & Brown & Secret Crafter - Bling

I have taken a while to get going today. I guess it's always the same when returning from holiday, there's always so much to do... mainly laundry!
This card is for 4 challenges... the Colours from Pink Elephant, the Sketch from Mojo Monday and the ancillaries from One Stop craft and the Secret Crafter.
Instead of embossing the Nesties with my Cuttlebug, I did them by hand which always gives a nice sharp finish. The Bling is in the form of a few adhesive gems.
I had stuck it all together and then realised that I'd got everything upsidedown. Fortunately I hadn't pressed too hard and was able to do a swift bit of fiddling about to get everything the right way up.

I have just returned from a fabulous holiday in Spain, part of which was spent with my daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter. We decided to take the ferry to Bilbao with the car and drive through Spain to the Costa del Sol, spending several nights at Paradors enroute.
These are fabulous hotels mainly within historic buildings. We stayed in a castle, a palace and a convent among other buildings. Just wonderful... and the food was sumptious too, with lots of local and traditional, regional recipes. Once further south we picked up our family from Malaga airport and stayed in one of our Vacation Club's superb apartments. Our roof terrace was so large we could have played football on it! Daisy adored the jacuzzi as you can see from this little picture.
