Here is a card for the new CAS Christmas challenge, started by Loll.
As you can see the theme this time is Holly and I used a Tim Holtz stamp which I stamped in Versamark and clear embossed. I then inked it with some SU Bashful Blue ink using a sponge dauber, adding a little Iced Spruce distress ink in the centre of the holly sprays. Following this I cut the panel into tiles using a square die and then triple embossed each tile with clear embossing powder, adding a few gems for the berries.
These were mounted on a die cut and embossed panel.
I stamped the Hero Arts, Brushed Greetings sentiment using Iced Spruce Distress Ink, but it needed several goes to make a satisfactory image. Fortunately my MISTI ensured that each stamping was in exactly the same place. I quickly added a little clear embossing powder to this so that the finish would match that of the tiles.
It's also for the One Third challenge at AAA Cards
This seems an unusual colour choice for a Christmas card but I think it just about works.
Looks lovely! Jo x
ReplyDeleteThis is so unique and beautiful, Chrissie! The non-traditional holly color combination is very refreshing. Your clear heat-embossed holly images and sponged backgrounds are gorgeous. I love the triple embossed tiles. They are amazing! I want to see them and touch them in real life. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful creation at CAS Christmas. Hideko xx
ReplyDeleteI think it works perfectly, Chrissie! Iced Spruce is one of my favorite Distress Ink colors! I love the way you've cut your holly into tiles and embossed them! Fantastic! I'm so glad to see you at CAS Christmas!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous, I love the cool colours behind the clear embossed holly. The tiny gems look wonderful and the 3 tile layout is perfect. thanks for joining us at CAS Christmas.
ReplyDeleteI love this, I think those cook frosty colours are perfect for Christmas

How beautiful do the blues look combined with holly! Thanks so much for linking up at AAA Cards.
ReplyDeleteLove non-traditional colour Christmas cards, and yours is just beautiful. Love the colours. Great job applying the colours with a sponge dauber. I have difficulty getting an even coverage. Thank you for joining us at CAS Christmas. x
ReplyDeleteThis is spring and Easter is coming. Can't we save Christmas until at least the fall? I find this very inappropriate.
ReplyDeleteIan sorry if you find this inappropriate, but as a card maker, when Christmas does approach, there’s usually a mad rush to get enough cards produced. It is for this reason that this new challenge was created so that we can gradually increase our stock of cards to avoid the scramble to make enough for Christmastime.
DeleteI hope you like this card even if it is the wrong time of year for it!
This is more the "just about works", Chrissie!! I LOVE it! I never think to emboss holly in white. It looks amazing with the soft blue background. Great idea to thick emboss to create these into shiny tiles. Very pretty card and design. Thanks for sharing with us at CAS Christmas.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you about making Christmas cards all year long. I need a lot for my own and I donate to charity, so making them throughout the year is the only thing that will keep me same when Christmas is approaching. I had the same message as above left on my blog as well and didn't respond. Christmas cards are appropriate any time of year. xx
I love this design, Chrissie! I noticed how you made your tiles look like Loll's challenge badge! Her badge has white evergreens, but it's the same idea with your white holly, which I love against the blue! The three tiles with the pretty scallop border are sensational!! Hugs, Darnell
ReplyDeleteWow! This is absolutely stunning! I love it! Great way of getting a start on the Christmas cards too! Thanks for playing along with us at AAA Cards.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree that it is absolutely fine to make and post Christmas cards at ANY time of the year - indeed there are quite a few year-round Christmas card challenges out there! I certainly wouldn't class this as 'inappropriate'!
Your tiles look incredible, Chrissie. I've been meaning to make some so this is a good push for me. The scoring and scalloped border set them off perfectly.
ReplyDeletevery pretty! thanks for sharing with us at AAA Cards!
